Just read ML's analysis of the T/Media one merger. It is their opinion that AOL and T will form a partnership.
Why? Simple. First: what better way to get cable subscribers onto their existing network then to tap into AOL's
subscriber base. Second: (and this is a huge reason for T) It takes business away from the Regional Bells. In
other words, if T can take all those local calls and put them on their existing network, and at the same time
introduce local service to AOL customers. It's perfect. And what does AOL get out of it. First; their customers get
what they've been waiting for Broadband. Second; With T's existing cable infrastructure, customers can remain
on line for as long as they want, which is good for their advertising pull. Right now, AOL is stressing to maintain
it's network to keep up with is huge growth. as a result, they've actually been bumping people off line just to spread
access to everyone. The result is that they are hurting themselves by denying their customers viewing time, i,e,
advertising viewing time. It looks like a deal made in heaven.
