SUNW rumour.
mmm, can't say it makes much sense to me. General Magic's platform is built on NT and their major institutional partner is MSFT.

However, I certainly agree that GMGC appears a much more likely takeover target these days than last August.

My most likely candidates for a takeover or major alliance:
MSFT, obvious but I'm not sure how the exclusive Quicken deal would sit with them in control. Certainly fits with WirelessKnowledge's Revolv, Auto PC and MSFT acquisitions like Hotmail and Jump. I'm not sure MSFT is too keen on high-profile public company acquisitions these days either - they seem to prefer to invest cash for equity.

QWEST, my personal pick and an old rumour unrealised. Perhaps not cash rich but various equity type deals could be struck. This would appear to fit with both company visions. Given Qwest's positioning this doesn't rule out any Internet partners, MSFT related deals or even other telcos ('Qwest the Telco's Telco' and all that).

MOT, outside bet but let's not forget their acquisition of Starfish and the much-hyped but yet to surface Myosphere. They might just have realised that acquire is easier than build.

We shall see - great to see some interest in the stock again. My money's on action related to Qwest.

SUNW rumor

Makes no sense to me either. GMGC is an service operations business. Sun is a hardware, software and services business. I'm not aware of anything they do in the hosting area. So, a business relationship I could believe, acquisition I'm rather skeptical.

As to MSFT, broadly their core business is elsewhere. However, that didn't stop them buying WebTV, which is in some ways comparable to GMGC - an operational service back-end that supports a new kind of delivery channel. Still, I'd be surprised.

Generally, as regards the chances of a buyout, does anyone know what percentage is held by management? What percent is held by VCs or other core investors? I would be surprised if this group would want to sell for anything less than a large (5x 10x ?) multiple of the current price, especially given where they are on their roll-out plan.
