Paul, there is absolutely no story that I can tell now or ever that can compare to your confrontation in the wilderness with a bear. I think that is amazing.

On the local sports scene, last night in two league games I went 5 for 5 with a walk and jacked 3hrs-in a row. That is 8 in my last 20 at bats. Cinderella story anyone? Abacan should do so well.

I have gone over this with a friend of mine who is on the USSSA Major Player List, and Ray noted that Saturday morning, just before the game when this hot streak began, I switched from playing in running shoes to rubber softball cleats. I went to running shoes a couple of years ago b/c cleats hurt my feet. I was hurt so much in 1997 and 1998 that I attributed my power outage to injuries even though my size, strength and swing mechanics all improved.

Anyway, Ray says that my front foot has been slipping when I stride into the ball. So my hands weren't "there" correctly at the point of contact with the ball. Now they are.

All I can tell you is that it is easy when you do it right. Like stock picking, I guess. But I have not picked a stock right in so long that I can't recall. Maybe I should loan my new cleats to Stephens. Maybe they will be lucky for him too.
