Well James, I can see you've degenerated into the time- honored bulletin-board tradition of crude language and name-calling. Do you really want to frame your discussions that way, or do you want to try being constructive, so that some useful information can emerge from this debate? I'll try one more time to be civil, but don't insult me again.Regarding CPQ, DELL and friends taking a hit that was directly related to market oversaturation (temporal). Let's see here... HWP is splitting up into 2 companies in order to correct the earnings problems brought on by Lew Platt's decision to cease to be a computer company and instead to be a resales channel for Wintel. CPQ fired its long-standing CEO, NOT because of "temporal" problems of oversaturation in the market. No, they still sell more PC's than anyone else in the world. It was becuase they aren't making much MONEY doing it. Temporal??? Not in your life. We are experiencing a historical shift in the microcomputer market and it's going away from PC's and toward thin client technology. As for IBM, they are getting out of the market they created all by themselves. It's because they LOST nearly 1$billion last year making & selling PC's. IBM didn't make this decision without careful consideration, James. You need to update your knowledge base about the computer industry, you're currently about 2 years behind everyone else on this thread.Sun is a hardware company not a software company. Sun Microsystems is a solutions company. The current market niche is the Sub $500 PC which is selling like hotcakes. CPQ is the only one to really drop the ball, DELL and GTW have solid predictions going forward. Sub $500 PC's look great to the consumer & lousy to the producer. The margins are so low, that all the OEM's who make all these great "cheap" add ons aren't bothering to test their equipment much & are skimping on components. Result??? High failure rates for hardware & administrative nightmares for IT managers. SUNW's RAS does make a difference on the low-end. No one wants to put up with crummy hardware & buggy software. That's why Sun's solutions are so attractive. They provide total solutions, uprgrade paths, hardware & software support, and one-stop shopping from a single source. cherylw
