I'm afraid that I see a major qualitative difference. The residue in the WH as result of the Senate's dereliction of duty doesn't amount to "politics as usual". The corrosive atmosphere of our political institutions is the price we are paying, it's going to be a tough 18 months.

<<bp--- I would prefer to note the ascension of the Republicans to Congress in '94, and the failure of Clintoncare even earlier. Politics is always a mixed bag, with disappointments following upon successes...>>

Sometimes though Neo I myself have misgivings about the ability of our institutions, in the face of widespread apathy and ignorance, to remain unsoiled. The Republican Revolution was met with widespread poo-poos. The "Grinch" has taken over Congress. Sometimes I wonder about a nation whose idea of social justice is "Where's my check Uncle Sam?" instead of "Leave me the hell alone, Uncle Sam, Im doing fine without you." We have the most just and balanced system of governance ever devised, how long can it stand in the face of those who dont know or care about its fundamental principles?
