What happens when the power goes out, can I still make call over the cable even
though the modem is not powered.

Apparently you can't from the information i am receiving here. Some phones won't work either if the power goes out.

As far as I know this was the first and only release from UMG. I do not think it was deployed however.

This was not the only release on the availability & touted success of telephony over UMG's HFC network. I recall reading an article in The LA Times describing their "successful" penetration into the telephony market with their Orange Co. subscribers. How veritable their claims were or are today, I dunno. I do know that they have in-fact been offering telephony services in & around Culver City as I asserted in my earlier post.

Sorry, Darren -- the fact that UMG never replied to your inquiries is not probative to whether or not UMG has in-fact deployed POTS service over its HFC network.
