Hunter's and Gatherer's...

" I learned to fish as a very young boy.My dad used to take me to a place called Pine Lake and I would catch sunnies and throw them back. One day I told dad that I wanted to take one home to keep as a pet. In his wisdom he agreed andI brought the sunny home in a coffee can. It of course died in a very short time. A sad little boy learned a very valuable lesson about living things that day."

You beautifully conveyed a moment in your life when you experienced a realization which lead to a profound respect or appreciation for life.

I believe that some people develop an acute sensitivity to the "universal life force" in the environment...empathy and identification beyond compassion. Hey, I feel ashamed when I cook a Lobster...I swear, I can hear 'em scream...but "they'z good eatin'", as my Daddy used to say...<<<Rationalized.

"We get enjoyment from the hunt much like One of Michelles cats."

Is the "enjoyment" in the "hunt" or is the "enjoyment" in the "kill"?

I believe that people hunt in order to experience a sense of "potency" that comes from "taking the life" of a seemingly "superior" creature. Again, males are compelled to demonstrate dominance...these days, it's to the point of literal "overkill". In ancient times, hu-mans equated the killing of each other for "sacred/religious" ceremonies.
The hu-man thirst for the blood of his own is undeniable...as I've said, it's lonely at the top of the food chain...cain slew able?

An animal that hunts without killing is practicing killing...it's that _execution threshold that I'm interested in...and also the spirit with which one "hunts". Glorifying the kill is gratuitous and the hu-man is prone to it.

People may never be honest with themselves about why they kill animals for recreation. It has more to do with dominating Nature and satisfying the need for a certain amount of adrenal stimulation, than it is about packing a freezer...

I say Halelujah, Amen.
