Well, CIO's often are working on implementing new info systems,
etc on development cycles that are completely independent of
the rest of the company. The technical/systems challenges
of these projects are often the main factor in making a CIO
job attractive (from surveys, etc in ComputerWorld
("The newspaper for IT leaders" per its byline).

So, it may be that the COMS CIO left for reasons that relate
the amount of interesting work to be done at his new job
vs. his old job at 3Com. It's not like he's moving to
a better company - he left Dell to move to 3Com, which I think
re-inforces my hypothesis that the prospects of the company
are not the primary factor here - or else he would have never
left Dell (not if he had any brains, anyway). (I own far more
Dell than I do coms).

FWIW...

<< Neil: Well....let's see, about a month ago didn't an exec. in marketing resign...now we have his info exec resigning? A picture on the canvas seems to be forming...who/what is coming next? I could be
correct...Benhamou giving his cadre time to locate new positions
elsewhere prior to his resignation or...it could be possible that
they see no future for themselves if 3com is bought out..."new owner wants his own people" in key positions. If this continues...then it looks like a major restructuring of mgmt will occur...regardless!>>

Harold - Tom Thomas is taking the CEO and Chairman's job at Vanatage - not a bad bump up for a CIO and you can't fault him. He is extremely well respected both inside and outside 3Com.

Harold: As predicted, the spike due to take over rumors is now selling off. Currently the Net working Group are mainly down with more to give.

I think next we shall see this Sector rotation endure for another week.
