I've got to leave for a trip in three minutes but would be happy to discuss the issue of CDMA2000 for 3G vs some other form such as WCDMA. CDMA2000 uses correlation filter methods which, by nature are synchronous, and WCDMA is matched filter which is in the asynchronous camp. WCDMA camp claims their elements allow for much quicker disbursement therefore greater data than correlation method. CDMA camp states that QCOM's synchronous version is more efficient and not fully understand by WCDMA prophets. Nokia is working in the asynchronous camp for 3G which happens to be some of IDC's strengths. Ericsson also has continued work its work here.

Nokia had a WCDMA running in Finland but couldn't get consistent stability of info relative to cost effective bandwidth with high speeds and large data quantities - Ericsson, I hear had similar issues. CDMA2000 camp claims all their bugs are principally worked out, so their's should be the first 3G choice. However, when IDC was working on their ASIC with Texas Instruments (and with GBT) they discovered several variables relative to stabilizing wideband CDMA disbursement at high rates of speed with large quanities. So, some of the issues now becomes issues of cost. Nokia - as well as many engineers at Ericsson (believe it or not), are aware of what IDC in combination with GBT are bringing and can bring to the table relative to WCDMA.

possibly this helps for now. Upon my return be glad to get the prof. engineer around here to write more to you.
