Peter, Phillip Services is a Canadian company. The posters on Yahoo were quite vicious and there specific, direct threats made against specific company personnel. I also recall that there was an employee (or ex-employee) posting confidential information. It was not about "bashing" the stock. The company pretty well took care of that themselves. When I get a chance I'll try to dig up some links. It was an interesting story.

Peter,

Sorry I don't have any specific links on Phillips Services, but it did recieve a lot of media attention in Canada in recent months because of the Yahoo postings and Carl Icahns raiding attempt.

I didnt actually see what the Yahoo postings were about, but I don't believe they were in the same category as the bashing here. They were much more libellous (sp?) and I believe disclosed confidential corporate information.

In any case, it's a landmark case, and in my opinion a very scary one because it shows that people can't necessarily hide behind anonymous aliases on the net.

Peter,
If the SEC wants to read the SI board, it is open for them to read. After reading the posts, if they think they have a case, then they can easily get a subpoena for posts and information on the poster.
