Why can't corel sell wordperfect and suite 8 on their merits? it already charges much less than word or office. MS has a monopoly. Better products and lower prices don't win in a monopoly. The only way Corel could have gained market share from MS when they first bought WP would be to do a MS tactic. They would have to give it away like MS did with IE. The only reason Netscape survived was that AOL bought them out before they went belly up. If that didn't work they would have to own a popular operating system so they could control the distribution channels and if that didn't work they could have bundled it with the OS. All this would have taken big bucks which Corel never had. I think in their hay day Corel had about 70 million US in cash. The only reason Corel is around is that MS needs them so they can tell the DOJ they don't have a monopoly otherwise MS could in a blink of a eye take them out. What stopping MS from buying Adobe and bundling it with its OS. DOJ. What stopping MS from out right buying Corel. DOJ. As the saying goes were do you want MS to take you today. I just can't blame MS but part of the blame goes to Cowpland. He never figured this out before he went head to head with MS. After following Cowpland around in circles for a few years I have come to the conclusion that he is just a glitz and glamour kind of guy lacking the high intelligence and fore sight necessary to survive in a monopoly market or any market for that matter. I also blame the Ontario Security Commission who allows insiders to pump and dump TSE listed stock with no respect for the average shareholder. If the OSC had any balls they would jump all over these kinds of companies that pull this kind of crap off so the next investor doesn't get sucked in. Does anybody know how that US suit is going against Corel. Were is Vanni when you need him. JMHO Mike
