Internet OS Counter Project for April '99

Posted by Hemos on Thursday April 29, @08:13AM EDT from the counting-them-up dept. (slashdot.org)

AshNazg writes "The Internet Operating System Counter project has published results for April 1999. This is very important because it's one of the few ways of reliably counting Linux hosts. Linux is show to be the leading OS in the survey with 31.3%. All Windows versions combined account only for 24.3% "

leb.net

Linux 31.3% up 2.8% from January.

Windows 95/98/NT 24.3% DOWN 0.1% from January.

Thanks to slashdot.org

You may want to check www.leb.net's funding. I don't know anything about them.

Note: Slashdot runs on Linux and has a Linux bias.

FWIW. Just trying to keep an open mind. Let the flames begin.

Your right, no IT manager is going to put his balls on the line to save a few dollars. Also, after scanning some hacker pages I also see that Linux is the easiest OS to hack on the net; suppose since it's a hacker built OS.

Linux though is enjoying success with techies. Bottom line is the development tools and desktop environment just isnt' there yet. It needs a couple more years to mature; at least.

Now I just need to do some tech analysis on MSFT to see if it's a good time to buy in ;)

Cheers
James
