I guess I should have figured it out that the CMOS sensors are cheaper because they are made in run-of-the-mill foundries. HP's technical backgrounder didn't explicitly go over the drawbacks of CMOS compared to CCD but I gather that they are less sensitive. Probably won't see 1 or 2 lux CMOS camcorders. I seem to remember that CMOS has more of a memory although that may not matter in still photography.

Overall this is great for KOPN if they can get these cameras on shelves. IMHO, their existing chip will be perfect for viewfinders. The higher resolution chips in development will be needed for portable web browsing machines and the like.

I'd buy a megapixel for under $200. Until then I'll get by with a film camera and my handy-dandy (and cheap) scanner <g>.
