I disagree that allowing the populace to vote is a token gesture. In an earlier post I asked if the Communist Party in China might split into various factions (parties within the party). In this situation, the candidates were all members of the Party but with differing views. Allowing the public to determine the local office holder by vote is a new situation that will be difficult to reverse and should spread to other areas. "If they can do it ..."

If you are referring to Congressman Jim Leach - I've met him and agree with most things he does. Many things happened last week. What are you referring to in your post?
