rudedog: It seems that Rosen & co. have an opportunity to put their stamp on the company by making now the senior personnel changes they think necessary. They could then ask the new CEO to appoint a new CFO but otherwise work with the installed team, making changes as he proceeds. But I suppose there is a competing argument that they make only the most urgent changes now leaving more scope for the new CEO to affect changes.

According to Rosen they began to think of replacing EP in February at about the time that Mason isssued his "warning". In that time, before the sacking, they must have thought about how they wanted to replace him. They could have kept him on until they had found a successor. The fact they cut him abruptly suggests either (a) that they have a successor lined up for quick appointment or (b) they actually want to get their hands on the company and run it themselves for a few months.

Unless there is something that we don't know, I would think that it is much better to make a relatively quick decision.

I was interested in your comments on Rose. He is talked about as a candidate for CEO. He is certainly in the front-line of the "new COMPAQ". The concept of CPQ as an IT enterprise company was just begnning to make some headway.

I think the advertising agency brought over from DEC has been disappointing based on my admittedly superficial comparison of the efforts of DELL, GTW and IBM and based on the general complaint that perceptions of COMPAQ's "mission" is confused.
