Michael,

I admire your patience, many posters simply have given up on injecting any logic to Barry.

<< Robert, the last part of your message wasn't even a thinly disguised effort at attempting to paint everyone who disagree's with with your war as a racist. >>

I disagree. There are those that can turn the other way and be indifferent about other people's suffering, without being racists. Where do you fit?

<< It's a tired old technique of the liberal Democrats. >>

Very good. You fault me for a generality and then you turn right around and use one yourself.

<< It's really impossible for you to stick to the facts regarding the atrocities and strategic mistake this war is isn't it? >>

Milosevic's thugs are carrying out ethnic cleansing in Kosovo against the Kosovo Albanians. There are hundreds of thousands of victims. There are murders, rapes, widespread looting, burning down homes and villages. There are countless thousands without food, water or shelter.

These are some facts. But, I guess you prefer your facts better. It helps to justify your indifference.

<< Like most liberals you have instead gone into the feeling argumentative mode. However, even in that arena your argument is weak at best. >>

If I promised not to feel bad for the Kosovo refugees, would that change your indifference.

<< You are insincere if you haven't the guts of your convictions to join up and go help those people. >>

So, anyone who feels that NATO is doing the right thing "must" join up. Should people join the police force if they feel our police are doing the right thing when they go after criminals? If people believe in the death penalty, should they become executioners?

Go back to sleep!

<< Pretending it's courageous to send other people to die for your war is ridiculous in the extreme. >>

By your logic, anyone who supports a US military action should not be able to support it without joining up. I hate war. But, seeing NATO going to the defense of an innocent people being subjected to genocide makes me proud. Hmmmm!? Can I be proud without being able to join up?

<< The American army is not your whipping toy to be used when the feeling strikes. >>

Hey settle down and take a few deep breaths. After all, you were the one who wants to send your whipping toy into a land war, which I am opposed to. Your way would mean far more causualties. Hey! If you are so willing to send American troops into a mountainous guerilla war, are you willing to join up, or is that all BS on your part!

<< It would appear I simply understand at a far greater level what it means to die in war. >>

Did you get this understanding sitting in your comfortable recliner deciding that our troops should engage in a ground war?

<< Why don't you wake up from the dream world you have been living in and visualize walking up to some mother somewhere in Georgia and telling her that her 19 year old son or daughter died in the fields of Yugoslavia? >>

So far there haven't been any Americans killed there. If NATO succeeds in destroying the Serb war machine, and the Kosovo Albanians get their homes and villages back, this war might prevent further problems in Europe and perhaps other places. If the dictators of the world learn that NATO means what they say, perhaps we can avoid another conflict or ethnic cleansing in the future.

At the same time, if things had been handled differently, perhaps there would've been a better solution. But, when you are dealing with brutal dictators like Slob Milosevic, your options are limited.

Michael---- On the other hand you really shouldn't accuse Robert of insincerity just because he doesn't run to "join up". It would be like saying that only police officers had a right to deplore crime...Anyway, this is not a United Nations operation, and NATO has some reasons for getting involved, even if the way in which they went about it were bone- headed. Besides, it is unbecoming to criticize the mission as if it were foreign inspired when it was driven by the Administration. American soldiers did commit to following the directives of their Commander- in- Chief...
