<< Personally, I think it utterly foolish to do nothing.>>

And what, pray tell, are you doing?

Johannes, thanks for the considered reply. I really don't understand how this whole situation could be so underplayed by the media and the public as well. Some idiot accused me of demonizing the Chinese. I have not and in fact I believe the years since Deng rose to power have, on balance and in the larger view, been beneficial to the Chinese people. Without question there is much, much room for improvement in the areas of human rights, religious oppression, etc. I don't dispute the authenticity of the human rights concerns but then I'm not sure when you have so many people to feed that American style democracy is the most efficacious way to bring that country into the modern age. On the other hand, it is the complete disregard for national security of this maladministration and the likely effect on future generations which concerns me. We have a President who never seems to see beyond the end of his penis. No one seems to care. Perhaps the majority have forsaken the love of their country. I see no other way to explain the indifference to such matters. JLA

Amen to that. Our civilization is careening drunkenly from one near-miss to another, and sooner more likely than later we're going to crash. The only questions that remain are how and when it's going to happen and how it's going to affect each of us, individually and societally.

Personally, I'm so excited I can't hardly stand it. As far as I'm concerned, whatever happens is going to be like lancing a boil; it might be ugly, but it'll sure feel better when it's done.

Just remember to duck and cover.

Johannes, you are probably right that "The Matrix" will be taken too seriously by some, but it was fun, I think...:-)
