Kent, thanks for the story. I haven't posted here in the last few weeks, so some observations/reactions on the last 60 or so messages. As to the previous poster on rich valuations in the market, that probably cannot be gainsaid. So my comments are limited to the fundamentals of JDS-UNPH. I think Ken's (if it was you) point re. sources of growth in the metro market (which KK opined might pick up steam in 2001-2002) is the pay-off and (if widespread deployment of fiber systems/switches in metro and LAN does NOT occur) the risk in this company. (BTW, I very much doubt that SDLI is a supplier to JDS, but I will reread JDS's prospectus to check).
As to merger difficulties, we are dealing here with two focused, essentially small companies whose strategic fit should accelerate the operational fit. KK and Dr. Jozef are in command of their respective, tightly run (esp. JDS) ships. I doubt that merger/integration issues will become more than a blip on our screens. Gotta post the rest in next message. Regards. Liacos_samui

Comments, Part II.
Pat, how was the SDLI presentation? KK had some interesting things to say on the CC re. overlapping use of the 980 pump laser and the (?)1340; I don't know if this was intended as an oblique swipe at SDLI, or not.
Btw, I happened to catch the CNBC interview of KK as I was traveling and watching tube in the hotel before breakfast. I thought that KK was rather bemused, because the CNBC interviewer had not much of a clue on what JDS-UNPH does. The graphs posted on the left of the screen as KK first began responding were even more misleading, making it seem as thought the primary segment of the company is wafer inspection for semi- makers. UNPH does in fact make these lasers, but this is, obviously, not the company's focus. Regards. Liacos_samui
