<< Meridian is my dad's hometown. >>

My dad is from Quitman, which is near Meridian. But he
moved from Mississippi to Texas in 1929 when he was 19.

In '67 he and I drove to Mississippi for a relative's
funeral. We stayed in Meridian and it was at that time
that some of the family got together at the fish fry.

I don't think I discovered grits until I was grown and
away from my South Texas homeplace. Same for pizza.
We did have one of the original Whataburger hamburger
stands in the '50s -- great hamburger for 35 cents in
those days. As for grits, I like them -- it's usually
a toss-up when deciding between grits and hash-brown
potatoes.

For equal time, my mother is from Cross Plains, Texas.
So I'm half Mississippi and half West Texas.

Near Meridian, Mississippi?

Bay Springs, just down the road from Meridian, is my mother's hometown. My father was from Laurel.
