Some thoughts on those K7 vrs PIII benchmarks and the butt kicking the K7 takes.

The PIII was either a Coppermine or a Dixon QS judging by the 256K on die L2.

Both systems were running RDRAM at 600MHz. This is suspicious as I don't expect to see a K7 with RDRAM from the getgo. Furthermore, will 800MHz RDRAM help the PIII more or the K7?

Either way, it is still more data (if true) showing that fools love foils. The market buys silicon.

PB,
RE:"P-III Test machine
CPU Pentium III 600MHz (FSB 133MHzx4.5)
600MHz 32KB L1 Cache 4-way associative
600MHz 256KB L2 Cache on-die 4-way associative"...

That's either a Dixon or Coppermine, not a current Pentium III overclocked. I wonder where he got that? 133 MHz bus too...
A .18u coppermine vs a .25u K7?

Jim

Process Boy,

This report gives PIII a significant edge on similarly
configured systems {{to K7}} at 600MHz, with PIII a few % better on
Winbench99 / CPUMark99 and ~10% better performance on
FPUWinMark.

What happened to the deeeep pipelines and the multiple execution units, etc. that were going to make Intel an also ran? Maybe this is why AMD and Kryotech are rushing the iceaboxa K7 to market. Cool your beer and your salami sangweech while you compute.

PB - Re: "Register reports K7 vs. PIII benchmarks on 600MHz systems....This report gives PIII a significant edge on similarly configured systems at 600MHz"

This is FOOLISH !

Don't you know?

The YUK Register only publishes accurate, reliable information if they show AMD devices or projects superior to those of Intel.

The YUK Register publishes garbage if Intel's devices or projects appear to be superior to those of AMD.

Every AMDroid know that.

Just ask SCUM bria.
