Rocketman and the thread,
This battle with T is definetely making me nervous. Comcast, AOL and MSFT are really going to have to put their _ _ _ _s on the line, if they are going to beat out T for UMG. Anyone who thinks this battle is just another step in the AOL dance, like NSCP, is sadly mistaken. T is an awesome firm, well run, rich with a p/e around a tenth of AOL, yet with a greater mkt cap. I want AOL to win this war, but am not overly optimistic. If the Comcast group does win, I hope they don't overpay. I believe much of this deal depends on how much MSFT and Paul Allen get involved. They have the cash to push Comcast over the top, but have the least to gain. I do not really know what AOL's plan B is in all this, if the UMG plan fails. Steve Case is obviously a smart guy and he has a plan B and that is why I am long AOL. I think the battle with T may cap the upside for a while at around 165. I hope I am wrong, but thinking about moving to the sidelines for a bit.
The TA on AOl at the moment is very mixed. The price has been under the 25 day MA periodically for the first time since late Feb. The graph is channeling, with some strong support, but the heaviest volume day recently was the torrential selloff last week. I think we are currently forming a wedge(higher lows and lower highs) which will break either way within 2 weeks. The candles look ok, but the volume is not heavy enough to really judge. We need a 40 million share day pushing through the 160s to make me feel more comfortable.
