You wrote... You people do not see it !

Larry, following your logic of change applied to industry, shouldn't IBM be long out of business from the demise of the punched card?

There's a hole in the bucket, Larry.

Tom

So what is going to be the big difference between DELL's Intel
based computers and Gateway's Intel's based computers and some
unknown's INTEL's computer ?????

For starters...

Ease of purchase
Availability
Customer service
Consumer confidence
Vendor customization
Creative financing
Knowledgeable salespeople
Warranty
Reliability
Power consumption
Recycleability

I'm sure others could add more.

Glad to assist, PW.

Yeah, like flawed logic is going to get you places.

No hate mail from me Larry but what do you think is the difference now as the last time I looked they all use pretty much the same products now? Looks as though you don't know the difference,no wonder you don't seem to know much about Dell, its strategy,or business model and I mean that in a good way since no disrespect is meant.

Remember appearances can, at times, be very deceiving.

I still have my HP-35 from my days at college. It doesn't work anymore and it seems like a toy compared to the HP I own today.
We all carried them on little belt holsters. They were required for some classes

Larry,

Don't you have better things to do with your time? There are a lot of companies that I have little or no faith in, but I don't run over to their boards and post random thoughts. What is it that drives you to take the abuse you take on the Dell thread? I don't understand that type of personality at all.

Dave

p.s. First, I doubt that many would disagree that the primary PC of the future will be a simple display with a simplified motherboard with very few chips. You seem to think, however, that everyone simply buys based on price and that quality, support, and service do not matter (and we've had this conversation before). We should be glad that you're not running a PC company, because the road to today's market is littered with the torn and twisted bodies of PC companies that thought exactly the same way you do (Packard Bell, Acer, ad infinitum). Given that the bad word-of-mouth is already starting about E-machines, I'll bet that in 3 years, they won't even be in the top 10, unless they do something to significantly shift their business model. The world does not look only at price, especially when it comes to more complex products, and you do not see it.
