Daniel, I don't recall the Aldrich Ames business as a white wash that went wrong, but as a failure on the part of the CIA that was caught by the FBI. No one in the White House should be held responsible for failures in security far below their level of responsibility. The reason that questions may be legitimately raised about the Clinton Administration is that they appeared to have minimized the problem, and inhibited an aggressive investigation, as the breaches came to light.
Anyway, you seemed to have said that we ought not to be concerned, and that only if we treated China as an enemy would it become one, which is what I was responding to. I do not know the best way to attempt to counter any advantage that the Chinese may have gained. I have no idea if the Chinese could have bought that degree of eye- averting from the Administration, and I would prefer to believe that they could not. However, they seem to have bought some kind of consideration, and it appears to be worth looking into...
