Neo- He's a laugher. Why wouldn't someone who's being blackmailed come forward? Gee, maybe the blackmail was effective? Hmm. In any event, given this maladministration's total lack of regard for the law we'll probably never know if there was any truth to those rumors. On the spy issue, Aldrich Ames was a disaster and as I recall the administration and the CIA took a well deserved drubbing over the way the matter was mishandled. However, there was never any suggestion that the Reagan/Bush administration had accepted illegal campaign cash from the USSR and therefore had a motive to avert the gaze. It appears to have been plain misfeasance and something for which Reagan/Bush should have and were rightly and roundly criticized. Now as to Bubba, we've definitely had the suggestion that the Bubba maladministration not only averted its gaze but may have impeded the investigation of the Chinese spy and deliberately withheld information from Congressional oversight. The fact that the real damage to national security seems to have taken place and 1994 and 1995 (contrary to the BS Schuh has been spreading that all the secrets were only stolen on the Reagan/Bush watch-more of the BIG LIE) and that the withholding of information from Congress seems to have coincided with the 1996 election at least merits a very thorough look see. I doubt the Reno "Justice" Department is up to the task. Maybe there is an argument for an independent counsel law after all. Perhaps the statute needs a second look to see if its purpose can be made to conform to the Constitution. JLA

BTW, did you know that the alleged spy was promoted AFTER he came under suspicion of espionage in 1996.
