Israel expressly outlawed a political party for running on a platform of expulsion. It was not very democratic to do so, but it was wise nonetheless.I don't think that the Israeli government has used the war against terrorism as an "excuse for oppression", whether or not all of the measures taken have been appropriate. In any event, Kosovo is not per se disputed territory, as is the West Bank. When Menachem Begin signed the deal with Sadat, he was quite ruthless in getting the settlers out of Sinai, by the way. The situations are not similar enough, even between the West Bank and Sinai, much less the West Bank and Kosovo. Unless the Israelis engage in widespread, undisputed atrocities, we would not bomb them,but there are actions that could lose them our support, which would be catastrophic. The KLA has been branded a terrorist organization before, but its ranks have swelled under the impetus of Serbian persecution, and therefore it is viewed relatively more favorably.The main thing to keep in mind is that although analogies are useful, they are also limited, and the differences may be crucial...
