If I wanted to make serious use of my hard disc to store music, I suspect my 8 gigs would suddenly disappar. Any idea how much space the typical song takes in compressed format? Overall, the idea is extrordinarily appealing to people like me who have always disliked having to listen to a bunch of songs they didn't like to hear the ones they did.
I also wondr why the disk companies aren't pushing digital video more. Collectively offerring a site to access TV schedules for free would eliminate the $20 per month or $200 initial charge when buying a digital VCR and open up a huge highly cometitve market by eliminating perhaps the only significant barrier to entry. I suspect someone could do the rest in their garage. Actually, it would probably be a good idea for someone other than a disc drive company to start such as site supported by advertising. The drive companies might be afraid of alienating existing customers. -Z
