I think you're right, but I also think there's room for both IBM and Sun. There was some speculation at one time that IBM might buy Sun. Who knows? Stranger things have happened. Now that IBM has got their share price up again, I don't think it's out of the question. I know I'd be willing to swap 2:1!

Good link. The G6 looks like a kicker (1600 MIPS!). This could be some serious competition for Sun's high-end boxes (depending on price). Mainframe reliability, and an OS design that is inherently designed for transactional processing; and handling of txn spikes.

When IBM released earnings recently, I thought that I read that Sun and HWP had taken a big chunk out of IBM server market.
