MB - (...Japan has not raised rates because that would mean even more exports to the USA and the chances of a trade war...)

Might that be a mis-statement?

- higher rates usually lead to a stronger currency
- stronger currency usually leads to weaker exports

- higher rates usually lead to a slower economy, although in the case of Japan, lower rates have not produced a stronger economy
