Mr. Mighty Chicken was called for Jury Duty about 2 years ago. It was actually quite interesting. I have never been in on that sort of thing, so I got to watch it from the beginning. It was this punk who was accused of beating up some guy in the parking lot of a giant chain store, in front of about 5 witnesses, including an off-duty cop. LOL! The first part was really funny, the attorneys quiz the prospective jurors to see if they want them. One of the prospects said immediately "He sounds guilty to me." [meaning the dude that was on trial] He was gone. I suspect he just wanted out. Seemed like a stupid way to do it, but what do I know. Then we got to the actual trial. The prosecuting attorney was a moron. Totally unprepared, didn't have a clue. The Judge was really amusing. Dry and subtle wit, like he was being forced to sit there and watch it, but he wanted to make sure the attorneys understood they were really lame. The attorney for the defense was pretty sharp in her own freaky way. She managed to twist stuff around enough to actually confuse about half of the jurors by leading things away from the actual evidence of the actual crime. When we all got back to the little room where we were supposed to decide the fate of this guy, somebody said "Who has an opinion?" There was a long silent pause, and then I piped up and gave my overview of the evidence. I left out the moron prosecuting attorney and the other stuff. Just the facts. It was actually extremely simple and obvious. (That's why I kinda liked watching the defense attorney, she knew the dude was guilty and she seemed to me to be waving her arms in a hypnotic manner and hoping for the best.) Everybody immediately decided to vote me in as the foreman. LOL! So I got to stand up and say "Yes, Your Honor, we have." Just like on TV! And I got this certificate that thanked me for helping, which I thought was very cool. I liked that. The really amusing part is that I have not been summoned for Jury Duty since then.
