Bank of Canada cuts bank rate
one-quarter point

OTTAWA, May 4 (Reuters) - The Bank of Canada on Tuesday
cut its key bank rate by one-quarter percentage point to 4.75
percent, effective immediately.

The move effectively lowered the central bank's target range for the call loan or overnight lending
rate to 4.25-4.75 percent from 4.5-5.0 percent. The bank rate is the top of the central bank's
target range for the overnight rate, and is also the rate at which it lends to financial institutions in its
role as lender of last resort.
