Definitely not impossible. But the question again is, "What advantages/insight/synergies/leverage/etc. does a fish meal company have in the internet portal business?" The answer again is, "None."

BTW, an astute reader might ask about GE, a highly successful conglomerate of non-related and semi-related businesses. The difference between GE and the Korean chaebols is that Jack Welch says publicly that unless GE is #1 or #2 in market share in whatever they do, they will get out of the business. Translation: Unless we are highly competent in a certain business, we will exit. GE has lost billions exiting businesses in which they sucked. GE is as much a management incubator as anything else.

The Koreans will stay in a business no matter how unprofitable or how uncompetitive they are. They will subsidize it with profits from other businesses or with crony loans. The house of cards collapsed recently.

So, ZAP and the internet? They could only do that in today's internet craze. If ZAP had announced that they were going to start developing drugs or jet engines, they would be laughed at and their stock might plummet because of a lack of focus. ZAP announced that they are going into the internet business and their stock jumped to over 20. Only in this net craze.
