Mary, RE: the Cyrix to IBM rumor

Ordinarily, I would say that it is irrelevant to Intel, but a negative to AMD.

One thing that makes me pause, though, is that NSM has that brand new plant in Maine. NSM wouldn't finish the plant if there wasn't some potential in someone's eye for the system on a chip concept. If for whatever reason IBM can make the concept work, this may mean that the computer appliance concept comes closer to reality--a negative for Intel and positive for IBM.

Of course, the probability that this is reality is about the same as the probability that the K7 takes the technology lead from Intel. Low probability event, but something to keep an eye on nevertheless.

NSM may manufacture PII's if it can without being sued by Intel. IBM has the ability to manufacture PII's if it may. A marriage made in hell for Intel.

Re: "What impact do you think this will have on ... Intel?"

Mary, it appears Intel will have a more focused competitor, NSM, in the Information appliance market segment.
