Long with close stops sounds like defense to me. Some sectors don't lend themselves very well to close stops. re: Splits-Some of these highflyers might be looking at a post split price in the teens if things continue in the general direction established in the last 2 weeks. The money source for the low cash balance MFs will be from profit taking in these exact sectors that have splits planned,thereby pounding them further. Profit taking is probably the catalyst in the NET/TECH sell-off and it could be related to the cash balance issue you raise.
