Plan B, although I appreciate your contrarian view. As a person who has studies VOIP for years now. All I can say is, you couldn't be more wrong.

quality is currently as good or better than any cell phone, There is nothing gimicky about it at all. IDT gets around almost every concern you raise by having its own network and ISP. You need to try the service before commenting further. I use a net2phone callintg card and people cannot even tell the differance.

latency, echo, and dropped packets can be minimized through the latest design improvements in echo cancellers and CODEC (as Digital Signal Processing is becoming increasingly enhanced). in time, the technology will be perfected undoubtedly. as an example, i still remember optimizing a cellular system that we built almost 9 years ago and experiencing all the bugs in the software and mediocre quality measurements. look at the cellular industry now. we've come a long way, baby! please give VoIP some time!
