everything we know about music distributors/companies

everything we know about traditional media & industrial behemoths

= Greed & the inability to truly understand the potential impact of technology (in this case, digital distribution of material).

It seems to becoming clearer that what I said in 1 of my longest posts a month or 2 ago is an accurate depiction of what the music industry has in store for their use of digital distribution....and it is not what the consumer will care to support. While people were suggesting the end result is consumer bliss b/c of this new cheap media distribution mechanism, I questioned not only the entire concept but also the predictions of many on the thread of how it would be carried out. The music industry is not looking at digital distribution as a means to offer the consumer a better deal to purchase their media or a means to offer a different distributional organization. Rather, they are looking at it as a way to fatten their profits & distribute their media as they always have (ie. a single at a time or the whole CD). If they treat this new distribution mechanism as a traditional mechanism their sadly going to find that MP3 persists & illegal material will dominate the online distribution of music.

NOTE: In case your wondering about the relevance of the posts I linked to above & my statements above , I put them there b/c I think it suggests a general tone of the industry, greed and inability to understand the market, from which one could make the jump and derive the conclusions I have here.
