I think:
1) TLAB has nothing to do with. The products are different.
2) CSCO needed the product for a particular market time frame. Do to some circumstances they were not able to get the product out on time. If the resources were maintained the product would be delivered but would have missed the market window.
3) The product they need for the next market window whether its a higher bandwidth ATM switch, pure optical switch or whatever is in the works through development or planned acquisition or possible some partnership.
4) The marketing department is obviously in touch with those that procure their equipment. I am sure they know what they need to deliver and when. They are not rolling over.

They dont need to buy anybody. In today's article it was revealed they essentially threw away Stratacom. What an unbelievable waste of time and resources! Chambers should account for this personally, but we know some underling will take the fall instead. CSCO has clearly lost direction, it has no focus. It has outgrown itself into a seven headed monster. They need to shut up and quit their sabre rattling and get down to some real work. IMO
