Nettech Extends Wireless Development Tools to Support RIM Inter@active Pagers
MONTEREY, Calif., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- (Wireless Developer 99)-- Nettech Systems, Inc., the world's leading provider of wireless middleware, today announced that it is extending its wireless development tools to support two-way interactive paging devices from Research In Motion Limited (Nasdaq: RIMM - news; Toronto: RIM - news). Developers can now use Nettech's software products to easily extend their applications to run over RIM's two-way pagers.
Nettech's middleware will now allow developers to easily add Inter@ctive paging support to existing applications or develop pager specific applications. Using Nettech's middleware, developers can easily deploy these applications over any wireless network providing Inter@active paging service, while taking full advantage of the advanced wireless features and optimizations offered by Nettech.
Nettech offers a full range of products supporting RIM's Inter@ctive pagers, including:
-- RFgate(TM) , a wireless gateway that lets applications send and receive messages to and from the Inter@ctive pager;
-- RFlink(TM), version 3.0, an optimized wireless transport protocol that provides a complete end-to-end solution for efficient Inter@ctive pager applications; and
-- ExpressQ(TM), version 3.0, a middleware platform that brings advanced mobile messaging features such as push messaging and secure transmissions.
''Mobile workers use different devices, such as Research in Motion's Inter@ctive pagers, laptop computers and Windows CE-based systems, in the field,'' said Boris Fridman, CEO of Nettech. ''Nettech's tools allow our developer partners to easily extend their applications to support any device over any wireless or wireline network and provides the flexibility to create the overall wireless system that best meets their users' needs.''
''The RIM Inter@ctive Pager is designed to quickly send and receive high value, time sensitive information between mobile workers and their information systems,'' said David Werezak, Vice President Marketing of Research In Motion. ''Nettech's middleware solutions will offer an important tool to connect our customers with their mission critical data.''
Millennium Softworks International Corporation (www.miracleware.com), a Nettech customer, is using RFlink in its newly released SMS Enterprise(TM) ''off-the-shelf, but fully customizable'' field service application. Using Nettech's software, SMS Enterprise and the SMS development kit support virtually any device, including the RIM Inter@ctive pager, on any wireless network. SMS Enterprise is deployed at many companies in the USA and Canada, including Palen/Kimball Company, a large mechanical services firm in St. Paul, Minnesota, who provide preventative and predictive maintenance on commercial and industrial heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration HVAC&R equipment.
Using SMS Enterprise, Palen/Kimball Company can dispatch work orders to field personnel via a wireless connection over the BellSouth Intelligent Wireless Network(SM) and the RIM Inter@ctive 950 pager. Field workers then use the SMS Enterprise 950 remote software to keep the office informed of all activities in the field. These remote workers can update the status of the call, review service history on-site, add parts used during the call and enter work-performed information.
''Our use of Nettech's software has allowed Millennium to offer developers and customers a complete wireless field service and dispatching solution that can be further enhanced to meet their exact needs, even sharing information with any other information system'' says Steven J. Hulaj, president and CEO of Millennium Softworks.
''We believe that the new interactive pagers are fast becoming a critical communication component for mobile workers,'' said Robert L. Goldsmith, executive vice president and chief operating officer of American Mobile Satellite Corporation (Nasdaq: SKYC - news). ''With Nettech's development tools currently planned for the RIM Inter@ctive 850, our customers will be able to easily integrate pager support into the applications they are using with other devices over our ARDIS network.''
''Combining the nationwide BellSouth Intelligent Wireless Network with small, wearable devices such as the RIM Inter@ctive Pager 950 puts the power of wireless data into the hands of mobile workers,'' said, Tom D'Alleva, Director of Network Product Management for BellSouth Wireless Data. ''With Nettech's development tools, our customers now have another means to easily integrate pager support into existing wireless data applications.''
RFlink and client-server support along with ExpressQ server support for two-way paging devices is available in Beta form now and will be generally available June 1999. Contact Nettech Systems at 609-734-0300 for pricing and network and device support information.
