Actually, there is, but I am glad you are my side on this one, Barb...to be clear, I am talking about the depictions themselves. Almost everyone agrees that kids should not be molested for pics or movies, and that people should not actually be killed, of course....But there are ways of producing pornographic material that does not require those expedients...

Agreed. Besides, these are clear situations in which individuals have had their rights stripped. Children are inherently unable to make rational decisions of this nature, and their appearance in kiddie porn means somebody has taken advantage of their ignorance.
Snuff flicks - well, that speaks for itself.
Still, these represent minor roles for the gov't. Setting some simple guidelines...
The toughest thing here is the age issue. At what point do children cease to be children and take on adult status? Also, how are "special" people (I have 2 autistic nephews) treated? I think that while difficult issues from an emotional standpoint, they have fairly rational and simple answers. The biggest problem that most people have in discussing age and intelligence factors comes from their "feelings" and not their thoughts.
