Wash Sale ---

Assuming that he has to be taxed as a resident ---
My understanding is: based on the wash sale rule, if he bought
at $26 and out at $24, and then re-entered at $20, he cannot
claim the $2 loss until he sells the replacement, so his cost
base for this stock will be $20+($26-$24)=$22 instead of $20.
If he sells this stock next year, say for $100, then his profit
will be $78, not $80. If he sells the stock this year, then it
really does not matter.

Please correct me if I am wrong...

Thanks.

If I am not traveling, I live in Central Europe.

I have never been to the States for more than 90 days.
My own country has a harsh taxation on realized capital gains but they don't know the instrument of "wash sales"

As drakes353 and others mentioned, pls give it a rest now and turn to profitable ventures, eg. Net Perceptions.

My English appears to sound funny, as it is not my mother-tougue.

eom.

Mr. Chen. It appears as you have got it, or you are on the right track.

If I live within U.S. territory for quite a time, I am, in the I.R.S. definition no longer a "non-resident" alien.

John Chen. Would you be the same John Chen that runs Sybase, as mention on Page 313 of this month's Forbes??

Regardless, John: You still don't seem to understand what a Wash Sale is in the first place.

Please look at the URL I posted yesterday and read up before giving any advice.
Or better yet - leave the tax advice to experts.
