Hi all, I've got a general trading-newbie question, that I hope someone can quickly answer for me.

A stock, ABOV for example is splitting today, and shareholders of record of 4/13/99 will recieve 1 share for each they own. If I bought on 4/20/99, will I recieve the impact of the price split, but not the bonus of the share of stock? I.E. losing half my investment in a day?

As well, what does it take to be a shareholder of record? EGRP is splitting, and today is the cutoff date for the 4/21 split. Does buying it today make you eligible automatically?

Yeah, I'm a bit confused, and these trading waters can be dangerous for a newbie, who hopes to buy ABOV today to take advantage of the split.
