Michael - the volume on the E-mini has picked up tremendously since last year at this time probably due to online trading, and the ease of getting in and out without losing your shirt. There are probably many people trading in and out of the E-mini many times per day to catch the little swings. This is not quite as practical with the big contract because of the time delays and having the market move against you while you are waiting for a fill. So players of the big contract more or less are restricted to position trades, while some of the E-mini folks with online 2-5 second fills are trading in and out several times per day. Also because of the liquidity and online trading, some of the big players are trading 2 or more E-minis at a time rather than 1 big contract.

The Small appears to move before the Large because of Electronic fills.

It just gets reported faster, it's not really moving faster.

Many spoo traders watch the mini (myself included) because of this. There are certain times one should NOT watch it. But most of the day, most days it is an early indicator primarily because of the speed of reporting.

As for the players, I don't know. Of course, the real money is trading the Large. If the Large moves the mini comes along for the ride, the Large does not track the mini.

If by "action", Michael, you mean Volume most systems don't show Large Volume as it gets reported in Ticks if I recall correctly.

That is, if a hundred contracts went by then 5 contracts right after you would only have two ticks.
