how many of you who have families (defined here as two parents and
one or more children)

At the risk of sounding PC, I have to take issue with that definition.

Okay, Christopher, as a two-time widow with grown children, who do not live at home, and with two grandchildren living three states away, I guess I do not qualify under your definition as someone who "has a family".

But when I did "have a family", of course I spent lots of consecutive hours with it, doing something other than eating a meal together. What a question!

Took the boys to Renaissance Fest on Sunday. Friday and Saturday, took Ben to Greek fest at St. George's. Monday, Chris and boys worked on cleaning their rooms. Tuesday and Wednesday night, Chris and Ben played board games, Nick read in my room while I was on computer. Wednesday I took both boys to Border's, then to Costco. Chris took to Fair Oaks when he got home. Last night we went to Costco to get my prescriptions filled, then I went to bed early and don't know what they did.

We don't do as much together as others do, largely due to our respective solitary natures. We all like to read, and we all surf the net. We have two computers, and a lot of books. We do go for walks together when I am up for walks, otherwise, they walk with their father.

Nor do we watch much TV. The boys watch Dilbert, and the Simpsons, which I will sometimes watch with them. Chris and I watch Homicide, and Mystery, and they are not allowed to watch those.

I spend more time one-on-one with each boy than with the two of them. It's easier to have deep conversations one-on-one, and I do every day, in the morning before school, and in the afternoon after school, talk about the day and what's on their minds.
