And you don't have to watch them (I actually said that in one of my posts, did you miss that? ) to keep current with their ideas.

As a matter of fact, I have made a point of watching some shows at least once, to get the drift. And for the most part, as you quite rightly observe , you don't even HAVE to watch them -- much of the time you pick up information about them, whether you want to or not, if only from seeing the magazine racks near the supermarket line.

I will cavil at the term "cultural" entertainments, however. These entertainments are so loaded with advertising that I think of them more as "commercial" entertainments. Can there be such a thing as a purely commercial culture? Interesting question, I think.
