Bob,

FANTASTIC POST! Absolutely incredible. Boy, do you have a memory for novels and authors.

Glad to say I've read quite a few of what you listed, but not all. Couple of authors: Ellison and Attanasio that I've never heard of. I've picked up the Hyperion novels, but never walked out with them. Another time.

It seems that most people begin their life of SF with Heilein's juveniles. As I've mentioned before, mine was Tunnel in the Sky. The rest was history.

I'm not too big into Fantasy, but I drool over McCaffery's Pern series. I was very happy to hear they're going to make a TV series out of it ... in Canada I think.

Say, have you read Jack L. Chalker. One of my favs.

All the best, Rory.

Bob

Was just talking to by brother in Oregon and he was mentioning the science fiction authors he liked, then I read your post and it sounded like I was talking to him again. I printed your post and went to the two local used bookstores and found about 6 books in the post and amazingly one of them was the last one, "Greener than you Think" by Ward Moore in a nice compact hardcover for $7. The bookstore uses an internet connection to search for used books called bookfinder.com

Thanks for sharing your story. I'm sure my brother would love to talk to you someday.

Gordon

Nice post, BLT. I'm unfamiliar with a lot of those names - will have to check'm out.

I'm surprised to not see Greg Bear and David Brin somewhere high on the list. Brin's first Uplift Trilogy is pure brain candy.
And Greg Bear at his best (Blood Music, Anvil of Stars) has no peer, nossirree none.
