Along the same train of thought, does anyone remember a ballad about a patrol in vietnam sitting on some weed, discovering it was grass
I have a very murky memory of something like that. Was it one of those talking blues type songs? If so, it might have been Jaime Brockett. He did a number called "Talkin Green Beret Super Yellow Hydraulic Banana Teeny Bopper Blues", but I'm pretty sure that wasn't it (great title, though).

That evil, mean and nasty line sure rings a bell - I can almost hear it and it kind of sounds like Steppenwolf in my mind, but I wouldn't bet on it. All these songs would make a fun compilation CD (if it hasn't been done yet). One more, though a bit more peripheral

Smoking marihuana is more fun than drinking beer,
But a friend of ours was captured and they gave him thirty years
Maybe we should raise our voices, ask somebody why
But demonstrations are a drag, besides we're much too high
And I'm sure it wouldn't interest anybody

From a question about a year ago
Along the same train of thought, does anyone remember a ballad about a patrol in vietnam sitting on some weed, discovering it was grass. One goes to answer nature's call, runs into a vietcong, and their two patrols end up getting loaded together?

My guess at the time was it might have been Jaime Brockett. He did a number called "Talkin Green Beret Super Yellow Hydraulic Banana Teeny Bopper Blues"

Earlier this evening I had the pleasure of talking to Michael Smith, the artist who wrote that song over 30 years ago, and told him it was a question that had been nagging at me for a year now. It apparently wasn't that song - he had no idea what I was talking about.

He did say that it was written at the time that "The Ballad of the Green Berets" was a big hit and was based on an earlier song "All American Boy". Anyone know that song - he guessed that I was too young to remember it (what a nice thing to hear - and I suppose he was right)?

A bit disappointing, but a terrific night of music nevertheless. It's so refreshing to see a performer whose IQ is obviously higher than mine.
