El: I don't really follow him, but I thought that last time he made much about the difficulty of meeting earnings expectations if they were constantly raised by analysts. The fact is, the growth rate has been on a declining trend for three quarters - maybe more. Kumar said recently it will return to 55%.

El: OK. You're right. There was something different. But IMO, it's that the usual "cockiness" associated with Dell wasn't there - it has been eroding since the 11/98 ER and now is all but gone. I think DELL will have a pretty good quarter and that people have adjusted their expectations enough in the past few months to accept 35% growth as pretty darn good.
