<<objecting to certain baseless stereotypes>>

Stereotypes generally have some foundation of truth. If not they would never exist.

Exactly...

I was offered a job at First Union IT Group in N.C. at a starting salary of $ 85,000 USD a year last december...

I refused it for now, as I found a contract in canada (for now) for $ 140,000 (Canadian) a year. BUT, since my wife / girlfriend was BARRED from working in the US as my spouse, she would have forfeited a $ 45,000/yr job...

So I did not go, and the USA lost (for now) a potential semi-skilled <smile> IT immigrant...

I expect that I might take a contract/job in the USA at the end of 1999 / early 2000 if the USA EVER wakes up...

Canadian IT people are among the bets that the USA can absorb, really, as a lot of us are bilingual, with international experience, usually pretty good academic credentials and good work histories, especially our doctors and IT people..

At these salaries, we PAY a lot of taxes (to the USA) and are NET new assets to america, compared to ILLEGAL immigrants. We follow the rules (immigration) and they (stupidly) penalize us .. Go Figure !

Hoping that nobody thinks I am bombastic, just trying to tell you of a case I am aware of , namely ME !

Take care everyone
Jean
