I'm sure that Celeron is very profitable if you don't bother to consider 90% of the overhead at Intel. It takes a lot more than a fab line to produce microprocessors however.

An Intel exec is hardly a reliable source. It is very easy to play with the numbers to come up with this result. This reminds me of a year or so ago, when CPQ claimed to be making money on it's low-end PCs.

They certainly are, but are they making a profit on CPUS on the celeron line in the absence of the Xeon & P-III lines is the real question.

I have no doubt that 'across the entire CPU line they are making a profit'. What is your definition of 'is'.
