Gord : I can't say if China will obtain satisfaction for the unprovoked attack on its embassy by buying gold with dollars --- but I very much doubt it.

Re retaliation, when the US embassies were bombed in Nairobi and Dar-es-salaam, Mr Clinton was quick to take revenge by bombing a totally innocent factory in Khartoum, allegedly looking for Bin Laden. Clearly, the US doesn't mind playing dangerous games --- providing others are being smashed up. But, as you imply, the problem starts in the White House and Whitehall --- no leadership. Not to talk about the rest of the NATO countries who appear to be both spineless and voiceless.
