D. Newberry,

I have many times in the past wondered where the different technologies would lead us. I've come to the conclusion after working in communications fields almost all my life that when you think a specific mode will be around for awhile things suddenly change.

I followed Cisco's move into ATM and I know they wanted to be positioned in all the emerging protocols and technologies knowing that some of them would fail but that it was very important to get their toe's wet with all of them. Their size gives them the luxury of positioning as an insurance policy. Not very many companies can do that. Fortunately for us they can.

I have talked to a few Cisco people over the years and also got the impression you did in the last few years. I know they take this very seriously. If they didn't they wouldn't be were they are today.

The one thing that I like the most about this company is it's focus on the new emerging technologies and it's strong presence in helping start new companies and taking positions in them and the ablility to buy them out in the future as the successful ones blossom. To me that is their greatest asset. You can't invent the entire world in one laboratory!

I am very confident in their position or I wouldn't have put my money in with them! The last 7 years has been a great ride and it isn't over yet. I believe the best is yet to come.

Regards,

Eric

could be atm is such a complex curriculum and courseware subject that only their dedicated 1 week stratacom courses are appropriate.

I wonder if anyone has information or a reaction to the news that compaq computer will be a reseller of geotel communications call router [geotel purchased by CSCO in April]

seems to me it suggests that geotel was an important acquisition for CSCO, but would like to hear what others think
